Abstract:
Marks on a gemstone or a diamond 14 are viewed by irradiating at least a portion of the diamond or gemstone with diffused and direct radiation. A viewer means produces an image of the portion irradiated by the diffused radiation and another image of the portion irradiated by the direct radiation and displays the images. Preferably the diffused irradiation is done by LEDs 102,106, with diffuser means 110,112 and the directional radiation can come from an LED 104. The images may be displayed on a video monitor. Also provided is a housing which hold an irradiating means, a viewing means and a display screen.
