Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent flame jet from flowing into a suction port from a scavenging passage for ventilating an auxiliary chamber in an internal combustion engine having the auxiliary chamber.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 1 has: a combustion chamber wall face 7 formed on a lower end face of a cylinder head 3 and forming a main combustion chamber 12 in cooperation with a piston 11; a partition wall member 23 provided on the combustion chamber wall face and defining an auxiliary chamber 24 blocked from the main combustion chamber; a communication hole 34 penetrating through the partition wall member, and communicating the main combustion chamber and the auxiliary chamber; a suction port 15 opened on the combustion chamber wall face and having a valve seat 54 at an opening end; a suction valve 17 having an umbrella part 52 that can be seated on the valve seat; and a scavenging passage 63 formed at least at one of the partition wall member and the cylinder head, and having one end connected to the main combustion chamber and the other end connected to the auxiliary chamber. One end of the scavenging passage is formed at a position opposed to an outer peripheral edge 52C of the umbrella part while the umbrella part is seated on the valve seat.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
