Abstract:
To provide an apparatus and method for manufacturing a wire mesh rivet that is used for forming a single wire mesh isolator in a hole of a substrate such as a heat shield plate of an exhaust system of a vehicle and comprises a unitary wire mesh structure having a piece of collar and a single shank.SOLUTION: A collar (15) has a higher density than a shank, and the collar (15) has the same density with a finished isolator. A rivet forms the finished isolator by compressing the shank to form a second collar (63), while preventing the shape of the original collar from changing. The shank of the wire mesh rivet is inserted in a hole of a heat shield plate with the collar (15) of the wire mesh rivet being on a recess side of the heat shield plate, and with a positioning assembly being on the recess side of the heat shield plate and a forming assembly being a protrusion side of the heat shield plate, the shank of the wire mesh rivet is formed as the second collar (63) lying on the protrusion side of the heat shield plate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 16B
