Abstract:
To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent giving a liquid crystal alignment film that shows higher liquid crystal aligning property, can maintain a high voltage retention rate and has excellent reliability, in particular, to provide a liquid crystal alignment film that can be used for photo-aligning and endures driving in a long period of time, and a liquid crystal aligning agent giving the liquid crystal alignment film, and to provide a new tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride that can be used for the liquid crystal aligning agent.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent comprises a polyamic acid or its derivative obtained by reacting a tetracarboxylic dianhydride containing at least one tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride represented by formula (1) below with a diamine. In formula (1), Rrepresents a linear alkylene having 4 to 9 carbon atoms, in which any -CH- may be replaced by -O-, -CH=CH- or -C≡C-.SELECTED DRAWING: None
