Abstract:
To provide formulations that effectively suppress or inhibit formation of amyloid fibrils by dissolving or clearing (discharging) amyloid fibril formation in vivo.SOLUTION: An agent comprising tranilast or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient can effectively suppress or inhibit amyloid fibril formation in vivo when administered, e.g. orally, by dissolving or clearing (discharging) amyloid fibrils. Thus it is possible to prevent or treat amyloid plaques, i.e., deposit of amyloid fibrils formed by aggregation of amyloid protein, and also to prevent or treat diseases caused by amyloid fibril deposition, that is, diseases caused by the deposited amyloid fibrils themselves and diseases in which organ or tissue dysfunction is caused in associated with amyloid fibril deposition. Examples of the above-described amyloidosis can include, specifically, systemic amyloidosis such as immune cellular amyloidosis, reactive AA amyloidosis (secondary amyloidosis), familial amyloidosis, dialysis amyloidosis, senile TTR amyloidosis, and localized amyloidosis such as cerebral amyloidosis, endocrine amyloidosis, cutaneous amyloidosis, nodular localized amyloidosis.SELECTED DRAWING: None
