Abstract:
PURPOSE:To form a smooth recording layer by forming a data recording medium by providing a recording layer containing a specific indolizine dye capable of recording or reproducing data by laser beam on a disc-like substrate. CONSTITUTION:An indolizine dye represented by formula I wherein R<1> and R<4> are each an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group, R<11> and R<41> are each H, an alkyl group, an aryl group or an alkoxy group, R<2>, R<3>, R<5>, R<6> and R<7> are each H, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group or a halogen atom and X is an anion and, if desired, a binder are dissolved in a solvent to prepare a coating solution. This coating solution is applied to a disc-shaped polycarbonate substrate and dried to form a recording layer to obtain a data recording medium. This data recording medium has high reflectivi ty to laser beam having a wavelength most generally used in data reproduction.
