Abstract:
PURPOSE:To lower or omit the capacity of a recombiner and to simplify equipment by using a gaseous mixture composed of inert gas and deuterium or the inert gas and hydrogen as a moderator cover gas and using this gas after the gaseous mixture pressure is regulated to >=1atom. CONSTITUTION:Heavy water 18 is not filled in a moderator holding tank 9 and a space is left in the upper part in order to allow the fluctuation of a liquid level by a temp. fluctuation, etc. The moderator cover gas 19 is packed in this space. a high-pressure vessel 20 contg. helium of a high-pressure and a high-pressure vessel 21 contg. the deuterium of a high pressure are respectively connected in order to maintain the pressure in the gas phase part of a modera tor holding tank 9 at >1atm. pressure. The cover gas 19 is mixture of the helium and 3mol% deuterium and the pressure thereof is kept at 70kg/cm<2> (absolute pressure) by the above-mentioned pressure regulating valves 22, 23. the recombining effect of the deuterium and oxygen in the heavy water is im proved as compared to the case of using the gaseous deuterium as the cover gas under atm. pressure.
