Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance the storage performance and cycling performance of a battery by using spherical nickel hydroxide powder as the additive. CONSTITUTION:A nonsintered cadmium negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery consists of cadmium oxide powder and/or cadmium hydroxide powder which is the main active material, metallic cadmium powder which is the preliminary charging material, and spherical nickel hydroxide powder which is the additive. Since the spherical nickel hydroxide is extremely stable, even in charge-discharge in an alkaline electrolyte, impurities, which adversely affect on the storage performance of a battery, such as NO<-> and SO contained intrace quantity in the crystal are not released into the active material layer. As a result, deterioration in storage performance is retarded, and an alkaline storage battery having excellent cycling performance is obtained.
