Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of feature extraction by converting an original pattern to another form of better processing efficiency by one raster scanning. CONSTITUTION:When a document is read by a scanner 17, a run of black picture elements is extracted in every one row by a run extracting circuit 15 and run information having the format shown in the figure is transferred to a RAM 14. In the figure, l is the row number and si and ei (i=1-n) are coordinates of the start point and those of the end point of the i-th run. An array hdrun [.] is a row start run data pointer array for storage of pointers to leftmost run data in respective rows, and 0 is stored as the initial value. Obtained run data is linked to the just left run data in the same row. Next, run data is linked to the run of the preceding row.
