Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal light valve, light in weight, thin in thickness and using subtractive color mixture capable of improving the availability of light, and to provide a projector using the light valve. SOLUTION: This projector is provided with a light source 41, a reflector 42 provided behind the light source 41, a liquid crystal light valve 30 provided in front of the light source 41 for forming a color image through the subtractive color mixture, a projecting lens group 43 provided on the front face of liquid crystal light valve 30, and a projection screen 44 for forming the image by projecting light passed through this projecting lens group 43. In this case, the liquid crystal light valve 30 is provided with 1st, 2nd and 3rd liquid crystal display elements 31, 32 and 33 and color polarizing plates 35 (composed of Cyan polarizing plate 35a, green polarizing plate 35b, red polarizing plate 35c and Magenta polarizing plate 35b) arranged alternately with the respective liquid crystal display elements 31, 32 and 33 so as to form the color image by using the subtractive color mixture for providing the color of emitted light by subtracting the wavelength of incidental light.
