Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve power factor of a switching regulator by approximating the waveform of the input AC current of the regulator to that of the input AC voltage with a small-sized inexpensive constitution by providing a capacitor which divides the electric current flowing through a choke coil in such a way that the capacitor is charged with the electric current and, when the voltage of the capacitor reaches the charged voltage of a smoothing capacitor, the electric charges are discharged from the capacitor. CONSTITUTION: A capacitor Cp divides the electric current flowing through a choke coil CH into nearly rectangular waveforms in such a way that the capacitor Cp is charged with the electric current which flows from the output side of a rectifier 4 to the input side of the rectifier 4 through the choke coil CH, switching transistor, and the capacitor Cp when the switching transistor is turned on and, when the charged voltage of the capacitor Cp rises and reaches the charged voltage C1 of a smoothing capacitor, the electric charges are discharged from the capacitor CH. Therefore, when the switching means is turned on, the peak value of the electric current flowing through the choke coil can be reduced, because the waveform of the current does not become a triangular waveform, but the nearly rectangular waveforms.
