Abstract:
A process for the production of tetrafluoroethanes which comprises contacting 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane with hydrogen fluoride over a fluorination catalyst/agent in the liquid phase or in the vapour phase at 200 DEG C to 400 DEG C. 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane produced by the process may be isomerised to 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane. The 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane may be co-fed with trichloroethylene to a vapour-phase process for producing 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane from trichloroethylene.
