Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide an automatic tracking device which can track even an object moving at a low speed by selecting the rewriting operation of the contents of a memory that stores the luminance signal of the moving object based on the moving state of the object and by controlling the tracking of the object when the total of fine moving amount of the moving object exceeds a single block unit. CONSTITUTION:A CDS circuit 2 samples the electric signals received from an image pickup element 1 and transmits an image pickup signal. Thus pickup signal is converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 3, and a line memory 4 fetches in sequence the luminance signals Y equivalent to a single line in a fixed video signal extracting area that is equivalent to a single screen of the signals Y. Then a memory 6 included in a CPU 5 fetches a new signal Y for each field of a moving object. Meanwhile a memory 7 fetches the signal Y preceding by a single field before movement of the object. A correlative function is calculated to the data showing the arithmetic parts divided equally into a prescribed number of blocks stored in the memory 7 before and after movement of the moving object. Then a shift position showing the highest correlativity is detected through the complementary correlation. The tracking control of the moving object is possible when the accumulation of fine moving amount of the object exceeds a single block unit.
