Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetism control element which can control magnetism by a voltage, to provide a magnetic component which uses it, and to provide a memory device. SOLUTION: The magnetism control element is provided with an antiferromagnetic layer 1 as well as a magnetic layer 2 and an electrode 3 which are faced so as to be adjacent to both sides of the layer 1. By the voltage which is applied across the magnetic layer 2 and the electrode 3, the direction of magnetization of the magnetic layer 2 is controlled. Especially, when the magnetic layer 2 which is adjacent to the antiferromagnetic layer 1 has a lamination structure with another magnetic layer 5 via a nonmagnetic layer 4, the controlled direction of magnetization of the magnetic layer can be sensed as a change in an electric resistance. Since the magnetism control element reacts with an electric field or a magnetic field in principle, the magnetic component which senses an electric signal or a magnetic signal can be constituted. Since the direction of magnetization of the magnetic layer is held fundamentally until a next signal enters, the memory device can be constituted.
