To provide litter applicable to an animal litter box, inhibiting the generation of a smell caused by excrements remaining in the litter, and to provide a litter box using the sand.

The litter comprises granular materials comprising silicagel as the main ingredient, wherein the liquid absorption per 3 sec is 20-70% of the maximum amount of the liquid absorption, the maximum amount of the liquid absorption is 0.3 to 4.0 times of the weight of the granular materials, the liquid penetration of whole of the plural granular materials is ≥70%, and an absorption sheet having liquid absorption property absorbing and keeping the liquid passed through the litter. A excrement liquid 15 penetrates through the litter 13 and passes through open holes 104 set at a bottom part 102 of a litter container 10, and is absorbed in an absorbing sheet 14 set in an absorption sheet container 11, and the remaining liquid 15 in the litter is absorbed in the litter 13, as time passes.
