Abstract:
An authenticating system and method having a high resistance against analysis/extraction of a registered password (pass element). Pass element blocks (BP1-BP5) each composed of a combination of a single pass element selected from pre-registered pass elements and bait elements and bait element blocks (from BD2-1 to BD5-BP255) the number of which is equal to the number of the pass element blocks are prepared. Association is given between a pass element and a pass element block and between a bait element and a bait element block, and a tree structure the first block is the pass element block (BP1) shown in Fig. 9 is made. The first pass element block (BP1) shown in the tree structure is used as the first selection screen, and authentication procedure is started. When only the pass elements are selected from the pass element blocks (BP2-BP5) shown the subsequent selection screens, authentication is given. When a bait element is selected from the selection screen, the bait element blocks are displayed on the subsequent screens, and authentication eventually fails.
