Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new methine compound having an absorption in a specific near infrared range, useful for photographic sensitizing pigments, dyes, pigments for functional materials, pigments or the like. SOLUTION: This methine compound is expressed by formula I [Q is a group of formula II or formula III (X1 to X4 are each S, O or the like; R1 to R4 are each an aromatic or an aliphatic group); Z1 or Z2 are each a five or six membered heteracyclic ring; W1 is a counter ion necessary for neutralyzing an electric charge], for example, a compound of formula IV. The compound of formula I is obtained by utilizing a known method starting from quaternary salt of benzobisthiazole or the like. The methine compound of formula I has an absorption in a near infrared range of >=700 nm, expected in the application for photographic sensitizing pigments dies, sensitizing pigments for photo-electron sensing element or the like which require an absorption in the near infrared area.
