Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sintered lanthanum gallate having remarkably improved strength scarcely varying the thermal expansion coefficient and exhibiting high ionic conductivity in a low temperature range by adding a specific amount of alumina to a lanthanum gallate-type oxide. SOLUTION: The objective sintered material having cation constitution ratio lattice constant and symmetry keeping those of a lanthanum gallate-type oxide is produced by mixing 100 pts.wt. of a lanthanum gallate-type oxide powder having an average particle diameter of <=3 μm with 1.5-6 pts.wt. of alumina powder having a purity of >=99% and an average particle diameter corresponding to <=1/3 of that of the lanthanum gallate oxide, compression molding the mixture and baking at 1,300-1,400 deg.C. The lanthanum gallate-type oxide is a perovskite-type compound having a composition expressed by La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2 Ox, etc., and stable crystal structure. A fuel cell having low working temperature and excellent characteristics is produced by using a solid electrolyte produced by baking an air electrode material and a fuel electrode material on both surfaces of a sintered lanthanum gallate sheet.
