Abstract:

To provide a method for efficiently nitrating nitrogen oxide in gas to remove the same without requiring a special apparatus using a novel photocatalyst comprising an easily available material, effective in a wide wavelength region and having a nitration capacity due to optical reaction markedly high with respect to nitrogen oxide as compared with titanium oxide.

A mixture of a nitrogen oxide-containing gas and oxygen is brought into contact with the photocatalyst, which comprises molten quartz subjected to hydrohalic acid treatment, while irradiated with radiation to nitrate nitrogen oxide by optical reaction to remove the same.
