Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an internal combustion engine capable of reducing a shock accompanying simultaneous switch of a combustion system and an air flow control valve without any disadvantage about a fuel consumption and an output of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An air flow control valve 48 arranged in an intake passage 32 of the engine 11 is opened when the engine operation state is in a stratified combustion area, and closed when the operation state is in a uniform valve closing area adjacent to the stratified combustion area. In a shift of the operation state of the engine 11 between the stratified combustion area and the uniform valve closing area, a switch of the combustion system between the stratified combustion and the uniform combustion and a switch between a valve opening state end a valve closing state in the air flow control valve 48 are carried out at a predetermined time interval.
