To provide an inspection device and a method capable of inspecting a container cargo on a temporary placing stage for temporarily placing a container, without hindering a traveling crane of a container carrying vehicle.

For resolving the problem, this inspection device of the container cargo is provided with the inspection device 20 along the vehicle traveling crane arranged along a quay. The inspection device 20 has a carriage 32 for carrying the container 14 temporarily placed in one end part up to the other end part. A radioactive ray inspection unit 34 is provided in a container carrying route by the carriage 32. The other end part of the inspection device has a hoising mechanism 40, to deliver the inspected container 14 to the container carrying vehicle 70.
