To provide a flattening method for a glass plate by which the flatness of a glass substrate can be improved by filling the recess of the glass plate surface with a resin and consumption of the resin can be reduced, and also to provide the glass substrate for flat panel display flattened using the method, and the flat panel display using the glass substrate.

The glass plate-flattening method comprises pouring the resin into the recesses on the glass plate surface, incompletely hardening the resin, further pouring the resin on the incompletely hardened resin shrunk by such hardening, and then hardening the whole resin poured into the recesses. It is preferable that the resin to be incompletely hardened is less in amount than that saturating the recesses, and the hardened resin protruded on the glass surface is removed by a scraper. The glass substrate flattened by the above method can be used as that for a flat panel display to be manufactured.
