To provide an activated sludge treatment method for extremely reducing the amount of produced excessive sludge and realizing more stable operation, and to provide a treatment apparatus therefor.
The activated sludge treatment apparatus is provided with an aeration device 14 for subjecting organic waste water to aerobic biological treatment, a first sedimentation device 16 for solid-liquid separation of treated liquid B treated by the aeration device 14 into treated liquid C and sludge, a circulation flow path 18 for returning a part D of the sludge separated by the sedimentation device 16 to the aeration device 14, a solubilization device 24 for solubilizing the excessive sludge E in the sludge separated by the sedimentation device 16 at a high temperature, a return path 30 for returning treated liquid F solubilized by the solubilization device 24 to the aeration device 14, and an ozone oxidation device 31 for oxidatively degrading hardly biodegradable organic materials remaining in the treated liquid solubilized by the solubilization device 24 is disposed at a midway of the return path.
