To provide a wall modification method which is suitably applied to an interior wall, a ceiling, an exterior wall, etc. which is stained with tar derived from cigarette smoke, finger marks, lamp soot, writing utensils, etc. and requires no undercoat for preventing bleed even when giving a white or pale-colored finish to the wall.
In the wall modification method, a coating film is formed on the wall by applying a water-borne coating composition containing a resin emulsion having a curable functional group, a color pigment and a condensed aluminum phosphate powder. Here, the wall surface can be covered with a cloth, a wall paper or a coating film. Preferably, the condensed aluminum phosphate powder content is 3-15 mass% in the coating solid content, and the condensed aluminum phosphate powder is preferably an aluminum dihydrogen tripolyphosphate powder. The color pigment content is e.g. 50-200 mass% calculated in terms of pigment volume concentration.
