To provide a lighting system providing the appearance of a design part with a sense of floating.

The lighting system comprises a background plate 4, a transparent plate 6 which is placed at the front of the background plate 4 a distance D apart and is provided with the design part 61 such as a scale, a light emitting body 8 which illuminates the design part 61, and a light transmissive body 7 which is placed at the front of the transparent plate 6 and condenses the light from the light emitting body 8 in the separating direction for the transparent plate 6 and the background plate 4 (the direction of the arrow Z) to illuminate the design part 61 from the side. The design part 61 and a pointer 33 are thereby displayed luminously and floatingly against the dark background, providing the appearance of the design part with a sense of floating.
