To confirm that a control apparatus is mounted with a sub-category type mounted on a controlled apparatus.

The controlled apparatus 200 is mounted with sub-categories (collective name of sub-units and detailed categories in the sub-units) 251-255, and different identification information is given to the sub-categories. The controlled apparatus sequentially selects the sub-categories, and sets the identification information given to the selected sub-category to the serial number of its own controlled apparatus and issues a bus reset. Every time the sub-category of the controlled apparatus switches, the control apparatus 100 detects a controlled apparatus having unknown serial number (controlled apparatus mounted with the selected sub-category). The control apparatus mounted with the selected sub-category issues an AV/C command of this sub-category type, and the controlled apparatus grasps the mounting status in the control apparatus on the basis of the presence or absence of reception of the AV/C command from the control apparatus.
