Abstract:
It is intended to conveniently and effectively using an animal model of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, which shows an onset mechanism similar to that of humans, in screening for the evaluation of the efficacy of an atrial fibrillation inhibitor (an antiarrhythmic). More specifically speaking, atrial fibrillation is reproducibly induced by inserting an electrode catheter into the heart of a dog with complete atrioventricular block and electrically stimulating the sinus node or the interatrial septum. Then an atrial fibrillation inhibitor is administered to the dog with complete atrioventricular block that suffers from atrial fibrillation thus induced and the efficacy of the inhibitor is evaluated.
