To provide an image information processing method and system, by which a device with low throughput is used as a receiving side system, without making information processing amount in a transmitting side system excessive and the information processing amount of the whole system is reduced, when an image of an optional viewpoint, based on a plurality of camera images, is generated.
The transmitting side system 10 acquires the plurality of camera images, generates a plurality of depth maps corresponding to the plurality of camera images, encodes the plurality of camera images and the plurality of depth maps and transmits them; and the receiving side system 30 receives the plurality of camera images and the plurality of depth maps and decodes them, calculates an interpolation image among the camera images by using the plurality of camera images and the plurality of depth images, generates a light beam space comprised of the camera images and the interpolation image, segments a display image from the beam space and outputs it.
