A data conversion apparatus 1 comprises an XML (extensible markup language) conversion section 20 that refers to format definition XML data 14s obtained by defining the data format of legacy data 26 used in a legacy system 2 of a transmission origin with the XML and converts the legacy data 26 of the transmission origin into XML data 29. The data conversion apparatus 1 also comprises a legacy data conversion section 23 that refers to format definition XML data 14r obtained by defining the data format of legacy data 30 used in a legacy system 3 of a receiving destination with the XML and converts the XML data 29 converted from the legacy data 26 of the transmission origin into the data format used in the legacy system 3 of the receiving destination.
