To provide a means capable of capturing a still picture of more preferable composition when photographing a moving picture.

An imaging apparatus includes an picture sensor, a memory, a moving picture data producing section, a recording interface, an input section, an object recognizing section, and a trimming processing section. The picture sensor pictures an object at predetermined intervals and outputs data of respective pictures. The memory temporarily stores the data of the pictures. The moving picture data producing section produces moving picture data from a plurality of pictures. The recording interface records the moving picture data on a storage medium. The input section accepts an instruction input of still picture recording. The object recognizing section detects the object to be recognized from the pictures. The trimming processing section trims a partial region including the object to be recognized from the picture captured in instruction input and produces data of a trimming picture in which the object to be recognized is disposed in predetermined composition.
