To attain further reduction in standby power consumption by controlling shift in the operating mode of a memory based on the frequency of packet responses made by activating a device.
When an electronic apparatus is shifted to a power saving mode (S201), the operating mode of a memory is shifted to a precharge mode (S202), and a packet receiving operation is performed (S203). When a packet with the destination address to the own station is received, it is determined whether automatic responding by an automatic packet responding section can be performed or not (S204) and if automatic responding can be performed (S204:YES), counting the number of times of responding by the automatic packet responding section is started, maintaining the power saving mode (S205). The count value is compared with a threshold set in a packet counter (S206) and when the count value exceeds the threshold (S206:YES), counting the number of times of responding is stopped (S207), and a memory controller sets the operating mode of the memory to a self-refresh mode (S208).
