Abstract:
To provide a negative electrode having increased volume density of a negative electrode active material layer, a large charging capacity and superior cycling characteristics, as well as a battery using such a negative electrode.
A negative electrode has a negative electrode collector and a negative electrode active material layer attached on the negative electrode collector. The negative electrode active material layer consists of a small sphere of mesophase graphite, a graphite material with a compression breakdown strength of 30 MPa or less, and a binding agent. A mixture ratio of the small sphere of mesophase graphite and the graphite material is in the range from 70:30 to 95:5 in weight ratio.
