To provide a modified metal complex excellent in acid resistance and thermal stability by accumulating metals; to provide a more stabilized metal complex compound by subjecting a metal complex suitable as a catalyst to a modification treatment; and to provide an excellently stable catalyst by using a carbon compound comprised of the modified metal complex.
The modified metal complex is obtained by subjecting a metal complex comprising as a ligand an organic compound having in the molecule one nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle and at least four structures selected from the group consisting of a phenolic ring, a thiophenolic ring, an aniline ring and a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle to any one treatment of a heating treatment, a radiation-irradiating treatment and an electric discharge treatment so that the mass reduction rate by the treatment is at least 1 mass% and at most 90 mass% and that the carbon content after the treatment is at least 5 mass%.
