To provide an indoor unit for an air conditioner including a negative ion generating device, capable of efficiently emitting large amount of negative ions to an indoor side, preventing flame spread damage by suppressing adhesion of dust and improving reliability.
A blowout port 6 and suction ports 4, 5 are provided, and a heat exchanger 8 and an air blower 10 are arranged opposing to each other. The negative ion generating device M includes: a needle electrode 31 arranged along the direction orthogonal to the air blowing direction so that a tip faces an approximately central part of the blowout port 6; an earth screw 32 mounted to a position separated from the needle electrode 31 by a predetermined distance; and a case 30 with a semi-closed structure covering the needle electrode 31 and the earth screw 32. The negative ion generating device M is arranged in the blowout port 6. The case 30 includes: a first hole 40 for emitting negative ions opened in a portion opposing to the tip of the needle electrode 31; a second hole 42 arranged adjacent to the first hole 40 and opened in a portion opposing to the earth screw 32; and a slit 24 opened on a face on the side opposite to the first hole 40 and communicating the outer side and the inner side of the case 30 with each other.
