Each of pixel circuits U includes a light emitting element E, a drive transistor TDR, a holding capacitor C1 disposed between a gate and source of the drive transistor TDR, a selection switch TSL and a control switch TCR1 disposed between the gate of a drive transistor TDR and a signal line 14. In a compensation period PCP, a voltage VGS between both ends of the holding capacitor C1 is gradually approximated to the threshold voltage VTH of the drive transistor TDR. In a writing period PWR, a grayscale potential VDATA corresponding to the grayscale value D is supplied to the signal line 14, and the selection switch TSL is turned on. In an active period PA having a time length corresponding to the grayscale value D within the writing period PWR, the control switch TCR1 is turned on, then, the gate potential of the drive transistor TDR is changed to the grayscale potential VDATA, and also, the voltage VGS is gradually approximated to the threshold voltage VTH. A drive current IDR corresponding to the voltage VGS is supplied to the light emitting element E.
