To provide a driving circuit for an organic electroluminescent element to allow a reverse-bias to be applied, with neither substantial increase in power consumption nor increase in layout space involved.
With switches 20-1, 20-2 arranged, the electroluminescent elements are set to be in a reverse-bias state. The pixels are reverse-biased on the basis of a group of predetermined pixels at a time, for example, the pixels are set to be in reverse-biased on a pixel-by-pixel basis or on a line-by-line pixel basis constituting a screen, or all pixels are set to be in reverse-biased at a time. In this way, reverse bias is capable of being applied without the need for an additional power source, and with neither substantial increase in power consumption nor increase in layout space involved. Thus, it is possible that the service life of the organic electroluminescent element is prolonged.
