To provide a π electron-based conjugated polymer which is easily dispersed in a solution and also which can exist stably for a long time in the solution and which has a sufficient by low band gap and to provide a manufacturing method therefor.

A thiophene skeleton π electron-based conjugated polymer is exemplified by formulae (1) and (2). (In each repeating unit structure in the formulae, X is the one selected from -O-, -Se- and -Te-, Y is the one selected from a hydrogen atom and a 1-20C organic group, W is an arylene group or bivalent heterocyclic aromatic group and n and m are positive numbers, and their repeating structure is a structure of a random copolymer, graft copolymer, block copolymer and/or dendrimer).
