Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of reducing fuel consumption and performing continuous PM (particulate matter)-removing DPF (diesel particulate filter) regeneration by using a PM-removing DPF regeneration method different between in an all-cylinder operation and in a reduced cylinder operation, and to provide a method of controlling the same.SOLUTION: In an engine 1 equipped with an ECU 9 capable of changing over between an all-cylinder operation and a reduced cylinder operation, an exhaust passage Ex is provided with a low-temperature exhaust gas flow passage F1 for introducing exhaust gas into a DPF 22 via a DOC (device of oxidation catalyst) 21, a high-temperature exhaust gas flow passage F2 for directly introducing exhaust gas into the DPF 22 without interposing the DOC 21, and a first flow passage changeover valve 23 and a second flow passage changeover valve 24 for changing over between the low-temperature exhaust gas flow passage F1 and the high-temperature exhaust gas flow passage F2, and the ECU 9 includes a means to control the first flow passage changeover valve 23 and the second flow passage changeover valve 24 to introduce the exhaust gas into the low-temperature exhaust gas flow passage F1 in the all-cylinder operation, and to introduce the exhaust gas into the high-temperature exhaust gas flow passage F2 in the reduced cylinder operation.
