PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit tension reduction of a belt and generation of crack in the belt, in a belt transportation device.SOLUTION: A belt transportation device includes: an annular belt exhibiting viscoelasticity and having peak frequency in frequency response characteristic of loss tangent; and a belt drive unit for rotating the belt; and a stress imparting unit for imparting tensile stress to the belt, where stress imparting frequency that is frequency of the tensile stress periodically imparted to the belt with the rotation of the belt is lower than or equal to the peak frequency.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
