PURPOSE:To detect an indexing miss automatically as well as to prevent a workpiece from being unmachined, by rotating a dividing plate further clockwise as much as one division after calculation of the specified indexing frequency of an index commanding device and, after judging operating frequency of a zero switch, reversing and resetting it to the zero position. CONSTITUTION:First a dividing plate 5 is reset to a zero position, and a zero switch 24 is turned off at the side of right clockwise rotation with a zero dog 5a. Next, when index numbers N equivalent to the number of teeth of a workpiece 6 is inputted into a setting means 20 and set to an index frequency calculating means 22, an index commanding means 21 rotates the dividing plate 5 and the work 6 clockwise as much as one division, thus machining is carried out by a cutter 8. At this time, the zero switch performs its on-off operation for the first time, setting N-1 with the index frequency calculating means 22 and indexing this N-1 till it becomes N=0, thus machining is repeated. And, when it becomes N=0, the dividing plate is further rotated clockwise as much as one division portion, and a fact that whether the zero switch 24 is turned on or off two time or not is judged by a judging means 27, and when it is less than two times, abnormality is displayed by a trouble displaying means 29, but if it is more than two times, the dividing plate is reset to the zero position. Thus, an unmachined work is detectable.
