Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4425667
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
Electrical insulating oils are obtained from petroleum feedstocks in a process which includes the step of contacting the feedstock at above 340 DEG to 400 DEG C. in the presence of hydrogen with a sulphur resistant hydrogenation catalyst comprising 4-20% wt. non-oxide (calculated as Fe2O3) and 4-20% wt. molybdenum oxide (calculated as MoO3) on a refractory oxide support, for example alumina. The catalyst may also contain 1-12% wt. cobalt oxide (calculated as CoO). The hydrogenation is preferably carried out at 5-150 kg./cm.2 The space velocity may be 0.1-5 v./v./hr. The hydrogen may be used, either on a recycle or once-through basis, in an amount of 5-500 v./v. oil. A solvent extraction step, preferably using liquid sulphur dioxide, to reduce aromatics, may be introduced, for example after the hydrogenation. The product may subsequently be treated with a solid absorbent, for example clay, fuller's earth, or lime, said treatment being optionally preceded by treatment with concentrated sulphuric acid or oleum. Specifications 913,047, 913,048 and 917,345 are referred to.
