Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4828823
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1391514 Regulating I C engine fuel injection; controlling ignition timing REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 20 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 28886/72 Heading F1B [Also in Divisions G1 and G3] For making a measurement of a component of engine exhaust gas (for use in a fuel injection or ignition control system) a sample of exhaust gas is taken off in pipe 3 and tangentially enters a chamber 4 where it may be mixed with additional air 8 before passing to identical chambers 9, 10 (cooled by a water jacket 14) between which are arranged thermocouples 11, one junction of each of which is associated (in one chamber) with a catalytic coating at which an exothermic reaction takes place with the measured constituent. For control, the thermocouple voltage is amplified at 19 and fed via an analogue to digital converter 20 to computer 21, which adjusts the ignition timing or fuel injection at injectors 24 in response to this and other engine parameters 22 e.g. intake pressure, air temperature or engine speed. In the example given, carbon monoxide in the exhaust reacts with oxygen in the air from 8, the catalyst comprising an active porous alumina layer supporting a low percentage of platinum and oxidization promoters of manganese, iron, nickel or cobalt. The thermocouples may be of lead telluride "activated" by lead iodide or sodium.
