Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4848377
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1395378 Coupling pipes to plates AQUACHEM Inc 1 Aug 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 35922/72 Heading F2G [Also in Division B1] In a film-type evaporator in which water-tobe-desalinated is sprayed from heads 20 on to a bundle of tubes 16 which are supplied through conduit 26 with hot water-vapour in order to vaporize water from the films flowing over the outside of the tubes, the ends of the tubes extend with clearance into holes 35 in tubesheets 17, 18, and the space between each tube and the circumference of the associated hole is occupied with fibrous packing 38 which absorbs water and swells to enhance the seal between the tube and the tube-sheet. The wall thickness of the dry packing may be 0À025 inch. The packing may comprise densely packed paper impregnated with a minor amount of water-insoluble resin or sizing. Vulcanized fibre tubing may also be used as packing. The evaporation may be carried out at temperatures up to 250‹ F., but is preferably carried out under reduced pressure. The evaporator may comprise part of a multiple-effect system. The tubes 16 may be fluted internally and externally (Fig. 6, not shown). Since the packing inhibits electrolytic corrosion between the tubes and the tube sheets, inexpensive metal such as plain carbon steels can be used as tube sheets in combination with tubes of copper alloy, titanium or stainless steel.
