Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1451818 Sound film cameras EASTMAN KODAK CO 20 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 7783/74 Heading G2E A sound motion picture camera having means for recording sound on a film strip, means for guiding and driving the film strip past the sound recording means and for guiding the strip into operative association therewith, also has means whereby the various guiding means can be retracted so that the film strip can be inserted into or removed from its operative position. As shown, the film strip cartridge 28 is housed in a chamber 12 closed by a cover 22. The film strip F is transported by a capstan 30 on a motor-driven shaft 32, the film lying in a central portion 30c of reduced diameter between end portions 30a, 30b. A pressure roller 36 bears against end portions 30a, 30b, roller 36 being carried by arms 42a, 42b of a bracket 40. The bracket is pivotally mounted on a shaft 46, and is urged in a clockwise direction, i.e. into contact with capstan 30, by a spring 48. The lower wall 18 of the cartridge chamber has an opening 19, and when pressure roller 36 is retracted, against spring 48, into the Fig. 4 position, it moves through opening 19 so that it is below wall 18. In this position the film may be easily inserted or removed. A transducer 54, for recording sound on the film, is secured to the chamber wall 16, and the film is urged into contact with the transducer by a member 58 on one end 64 of an arm 60. Arm 60 is pivoted on wall 16 by a shaft 65, and end 64 is bent so that it passes through an arcuate opening 62 in wall 16. It is biased by a spring 67 so that member 58, and hence the film, is urged into contact with the transducer. A pair of film guides 80a, 80b are connected by an arm 84 pivoted by studs 86, 88 to supports 90a, 90b. The mechanism is controlled and actuated by a pair of slide members 120, 128, coupled together by a rivet and slot arrangement 129, 130, and urged to the left by a spring 136. Outer slide 120 has a button 122 accessible from outside the camera. In the extreme left position Fig. 1, a pin 140 on slide 128 engages and pivots clockwise a latching member 142 mounted on a stud 146. In this position a sector-shaped end portion 148 engages and latches shut the cover 22. Member 142 is connected by a spring 154 to a tab 152 of inner slide 128. Thus when the slide members are moved to the right, member 142 is pivoted anti-clockwise to unlatch cover 22 so that it can be opened to allow access to chamber 12. As member 142 pivots anti-clockwise, an arm 160 fixed thereto engages and pivots bracket 40 into its retracted position, so that pressure roller 36 moves away from capstan 30 (position of Fig. 4). A tab portion 44c of bracket 40 engages an end 66 of arm 60, and pivots this also anti-clockwise, so that the pressure member 58 is also retracted below wall 18. The retraction of bracket 40 also causes retraction of guide members 80a, 80b (by means of a bracket 96 and pin 92, see Fig. 9 (not shown)). A loop sensor 110, extending through a slot 112 and secured to an arm 114 pivoting on a shaft 116, is also pivoted anti-clockwise by tab 66a of arm 60 to a retracted position. The retraction of all these members enables the film F to be readily threaded into position. When slide 128 is moved to its extreme end of travel, a cartridge ejecting mechanism is actuated. When a cartridge has been removed from chamber 12, and/or a new one positioned therein, the cover door 22 can be closed again manually. Member 142 is pivoted clockwise again by the action of spring 136 to latch cover 22 in the shut position Fig. 2. The pressure roller 36, film guides 80a, 80b, pressure member 58 and loop sensor 110 are now all free to return to their original Fig. 2 positions to permit sound recording once more on the film strip.
