1,088,989. Earth boring. E. O. HEISE. Dec. 21, 1965 [Jan. 7, 1965], No. 54221/65. Heading E1F. A mobile road core sampling machine comprises a two-wheel trailer with a boring machine (17) which is mounted on a platform (19) displaceable between a raised inoperative position and a lower ground engaging position for stabilising the sampling machine during boring. Adjustable guide rollers (43) mounted on the platform guide the boring bit (26) through an aperture (41) in the platform. The platform (19) is pivotted (at 28) to a framework (29) joined to a yoke (35) manually movable for raising and lowering the platform. The boring machine is driven by a 4-stroke engine and is vertically adjustable by a handwheel (21) and a screw (22). A drum (15) carrying water for the boring operation acts as a counterbalance. The drill bit has a diameter of 200 mm. and a circumferential speed of 2m/sec.
