Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1411047 Wet air oxidation STERLING DRUG INC 25 Sept 1973 [5 Oct 1972] 44835/ 73 Heading B1X A process for oxidising by wet air oxidation a material which is insoluble, immiscible and difficult to suspend or emulsify in water, comprises injecting said material into a reactor containing water or an aqueous sludge solution and an oxygen-containing gas at a temperature and pressure sufficient to initiate oxidation, the mixture being allowed to oxidise, and the oxidised effluent being removed from the reactor, wherein said material is directly introduced into said reactor independently of the introduction of at least some of said water or aqueous sludge or solution into said reactor. As shown, water is pumped from tank 6 via heat exchanger 7 to reactor 8; air or oxygen is added to this stream either before or after the heat exchanger. The waste material is separately metered into the reactor; it may also be preheated. The process is applicable to petroleum oils, explosives or propellants.
