Abstract:
Panoramic X-ray apparatus for dental diagnosis alters the intensity of the radiation to match the size of the patient's head. The degree of intensity is given by a device which measures the size of the patient's head (5). This device has an arm (1) with an extension (3) at right angles to it, carrying a slider (9) with another extension (4) projecting from it. The slider is moved along the arm until the two extensions are in contact with opposite sides of the head. This enables a reading to be taken from a scale with sections (2) spaced along it which directly indicate the voltage required, or in an alternative marking, the current required. The scale can be marked in staggered steps along the arm, across which the edge (10) of the slider passes, and can be transparent. An alternative design has a slider and a double scale so that both voltage and current can be read off.
