Abstract:
The portions penetrating the disc (2b) are in the form of tubes of ceramic containing alumina, mullite, zircon or steotite. A film or coating (21b, 21c) of chromium oxide is formed along the inner and outer surfaces of each tube to a tickness of less than 0.1 of a micron. The interior of each tube is filled with copper to provide an array of major current-conducting sections. The ratio of the surface area of the disc is between ten and ninety per cent of the cross-sectional area of the contact, measured perpendicular to the direction of flow of the major current conducting sections (22).
