Title:
ELECTROCHEMICAL DEVICE USING ION EXCHANGE RESIN MEMBRANE AS ELECTROLYTE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6026685
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the polarization characteristic in an electrode and to improve remarkably the performance of an electrochemical device which separates oxygen from air by joining three-dimensionally an ion exchange resin membrane and the electrode of said device to one body. CONSTITUTION:An ion exchange resin membrane 1 formed by introducing a sulfonate group into perfluorocarbon is disposed in cell frames 8, 8' of an electrochemical device which separates and recovers oxygen in air. A mixed layer 2 composed of powder or short fibers of an ion exchange resin formed by incorporating a sulfonate group to perfluorocarbon having 10mu average grain size, Pt black powder of an electrode catalyst and polytetrafluoroethylene as a binder is placed in contact therewith. An air electrode 3 consisting of a mixture composed of Pt black powder and polytetrafluoroethylene is disposed in contact therewith. An O2 generating electrode 4 formed of Rh is provided on the other surface of the membrane 1. A DC voltage is impressed to the device from current conducting electrode 6, 7 and air is introduced therein through an inlet 9. Pure oxygen is efficiently recovered through an outlet 12.
