Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:2,2,5-Trimethyl-4-cyclohepten-1-ol of formula I (R is H, acyl or alkoxycarbonyl) or its ester.
USE: Flavor or fragrance-imparting agent having unique fruity, woody or floral flavor or fragrance.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I (R is H) can be produced easily by heating the linalool oxide ester of formula II (R is H or alkyl) in the presence of acid earth or active clay catalyst, and reducing the produced karahanaenone of formula III with a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride. The produce can be converted to another compound of formula I (R is acyl or alkoxy-carbonyl) economically in high yield by conventional esterification.
